• Is the ocean crossing rough?

  • Early mornings offer much calmer and flatter water for the ride out, and the snorkeling area behind Lehua Crater is typically very calm and sheltered. However, open ocean channel transits, particularly the ride back home in the afternoon, can get bumpy and feel a bit like a roller coaster. If you are prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking precautions prior to departure.

• Do you have cameras or GoPros available to rent?

  • Yes! We have GoPro camera rentals available on board so you can capture all your underwater footage. At the end of the trip, you can download all your footage directly onto your smartphone using the free GoPro app.

• Can we fish during the Niʻihau snorkel tour?

  • Yes! While this is primarily a snorkeling and sightseeing charter, we keep fishing tackle onboard. During the channel transit, we love to troll lines, especially when we spot tuna feeding or birds working the open ocean. Non-resident guests who wish to participate in fishing must purchase a Hawaiʻi marine fishing license prior to the trip.

• What is your cancellation policy?

  • Because we reserve the vessel and crew exclusively for your group, we require a 7-day cancellation notice for a full refund on private charters. Cancellations made within 7 days or weather cancellations initiated by the captain are fully refundable or rescheduled.

• Do we get to go on the island of Niʻihau?

  • No, Niʻihau is privately owned as The Forbidden Isle and landing on the island is strictly prohibited. All of our activities take place in the pristine waters surrounding Niʻihau and Lehua Crater.

• Is there a restroom onboard?

  • Yes, our boat is equipped with a clean, private marine head restroom so you stay comfortable during your full day on the water.

• How many people can come on this private charter?

  • To keep your experience personalized, uncrowded, and comfortable, our private charters are limited to a maximum of 6 passengers.

• Where do we park and meet for the charter?

  • We meet at Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor in Kekaha on Kauaʻi’s west side. Parking is available right at the harbor lot near the boat ramp and is paid via QR code signs located around the lot. We recommend self-driving, as early morning rideshares like Uber or Lyft can be unpredictable on the west side.

  • Because we launch from Kikiaola Harbor on Kauaʻi’s west side, which is the closest harbor to Niʻihau, our channel crossing takes about 1 hour. This cuts your open ocean travel time in half compared to boats launching from east or south side harbors.

• Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?

  • While we snorkel in areas known for diverse pelagic life, wild ocean animals roam freely and operate on their own schedule. Sightings of sharks, rays, monk seals, or whales can never be guaranteed, but our team puts you in the best position possible to experience raw, untouched marine habitats.

• Do I need to bring my own snorkel gear?

  • We provide high-quality masks, snorkels, and fins on board. However, if you have your own personal set that you prefer and fit comfortably, you are more than welcome to bring it along!

• Are kids or beginner snorkelers allowed on this tour?

  • Yes, but please keep in mind that Niʻihau and Lehua Crater are deep, open ocean environments without shorelines or shallow beach entries. Guests should have basic swimming ability and be comfortable in deep water.
